The School of Foreign Languages of Jinan University was established in May, 2001 on the basis of the former Foreign Languages Department and the College English Teaching Center. The Foreign Languages Institute has now developed into five teaching units, namely, Foreign Language and Literature Department, Business English Department, Japanese Department, College English Teaching Department and Western Language Department, and two specialized research institutes, namely, Foreign Language and Literature Institute, Applied Linguistics and Foreign Language Teaching Institute. In addition, the predecessor of Foreign Languages College of Jinan University was the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, which was founded in 1927. There are three authorized points for master&;s degree in Foreign Languages Institute. ; Master&;s degree in English language and literature, foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, Japanese language and literature, and master&;s degree authorization points. ; Bachelor&;s degree in translation.
