Guangzhou Pumped-storage Power Station is the first large-scale pumped-storage power station built in China. It is equipped with eight 300,000-kilowatt units with bidirectional regulation capacity of water pump and power generation, which is the largest in the world among similar power stations. The power station was built in two phases, each with an installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. The first phase of the project was put into operation on March 12, 1994. The first unit of the second phase project was connected to the grid in December 1998, and the eighth unit was put into operation in February 2000.
