The airport with the largest area is Beijing Capital International Airport, referred to as &”;Capital Airport&”; for short. Located in Shunyi District, Beijing, the Capital Airport covers a total area of 986,000 square meters. It was built in 1958 and is an important window for air gateway and foreign exchange. Shanghai Pudong Airport is located in the coastal area of Pudong New Area, Shanghai, with an area of 40 square kilometers. The first phase of the airport project was fully started in October 1997 and opened to traffic in September 1999. A 4000-meter-long and 60-meter-wide 4E-class north-south runway and two parallel taxiways were built in the first phase. In 2008, the former expansion project of Beijing was put into use. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (ICAO：ZGGG, IATA：CAN) is located at the junction of Renhe Town, Baiyun District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, and Xinhua Street and Huadong Town, Huadu District, about 28km away from the center of Guangzhou. It is a 4F-class civil international airport, one of the three major gateway composite hub airports and the top 50 major airports in the world. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport was formerly known as Chengdu Shuanggui Temple Airport, which was built in 1938. On December 12, 1956, Chengdu Shuanggui Temple Airport was renamed Chengdu Shuangliu Airport.
