Guangzhou University City was established in 2003. The overall planning and construction of Guangzhou University City was officially started in January 2003, and the first phase of the project was officially completed 19 months later. On September 1st, 2004, the first phase was stationed in ten universities, namely: Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, Guangzhou University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Guangdong Pharmaceutical University, Guangdong University of Technology, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and Xinghai Conservatory of Music.
