People judge Cantonese in the Mainland mainly by accent, vocabulary and tone. Cantonese pronunciation in the Mainland is generally based on Cantonese. Cantonese and Guangzhou Cantonese have basically the same pronunciation, with only a few differences. There are two main differences between Guangdong and Hong Kong dialects: first, there are differences in vocabulary. Cantonese retains more traditional Cantonese words before liberation, but it also adds a lot of English to become a Hong Kong-style &”;Pidgin&”;; Mainland Cantonese has added many common words. For example, the teacher is called Mr., the class is called class, the work is called rework, the concrete is called concrete, and so on. Secondly, in terms of intonation, the accent of Hong Kong Cantonese is not obvious, so it sounds dull and soft. Speaking Cantonese in Guangzhou, the accent is more prominent, cadence, and the tone sounds harder. In fact, in terms of intonation, Hong Kong Cantonese is not as traditional as the current Cantonese. Because the pronunciation is hard, it is the common feature of southern dialects, such as Fujian dialect. Originally from Baoan, Dongguan, Guangdong, the local Cantonese is originally a Dongguan accent. However, because it is an immigrant city, people from Guangzhou, the provincial capital, have been doing business in Hong Kong for a living. During the Anti-Japanese War, the population decreased greatly. After the war, before and after the special liberation, a large number of mainlanders moved in, mainly from Guangzhou. They quickly entered the mainstream society, and at the same time brought the standard vernacular of Guangzhou as the most important communication language, and kept it relatively purely, making it an enclave of Cantonese language.
