Maonan District is located in the western part of Guangdong Province, southwest of Guangdong Province, and belongs to Maoming City. Maonan District is located in the political, economic and cultural center of Maoming City. It is the seat of the party and government organs in Maoming City. It has sub-district offices, eight industrial satellite towns and a development pilot area. After Maoming City was upgraded from a county-level city to a prefecture-level city in 1985, its original jurisdiction was approved by the State Council to establish Maonan District as a municipal district of Maoming City. Maonan District now governs 8 towns, 1 development experimental zone and 7 sub-district offices, namely Jintang Town, Gongguan Town, Zhensheng Town, Aotou Town, Meihua Town, Gaoshan Town, Xinpo Town, Shange Town, Maonan Suburb Economic Development Experimental Zone, Hedong Sub-district Office, Hexi Sub-district Office, Hongqi Sub-district Office, Xinhua Sub-district Office, Open-pit Sub-district Office, Guandu Sub-district Office and Zhanqian Sub-district Office. It has jurisdiction over 133 village committees and 85 neighborhood committees.
