Wang Gongzhuang, which belongs to Minquan County, Shangqiu City, Henan Province, is known as &”;the first village to draw tigers&”;. Located in the hinterland of the old Yellow River, this village is a national cultural (art) industry base, a characteristic village, a national civilized village and a characteristic cultural (painting) village in Henan Province. Wang Gongzhuang villagers&; paintings began in 1956, and the village sold more than 40,000 paintings annually, with an output value of more than 25 million yuan. About 30% of the works are exported to Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas countries. The village has a population of 1,366, 800 of whom are engaged in painting industry. There are many painters such as husband and wife painters, father and son painters and sister painters in the village. The villagers mainly paint, and they also paint many kinds of people, landscapes, flowers and birds. It has led thousands of farmers in three counties of neighboring provinces to engage in painting or sell peasant paintings, forming a peasant painting group with Wang Gongzhuang as the leader. The vigorous development of painting in Huahu Village has attracted great attention from leaders and artists at all levels. The village consists of 2 members of Fine Arts Association, 6 members of Henan Artists Association, 8 members of Henan Traditional Chinese Painting Association, 36 members of Shangqiu Artists Association, 208 members of Minquan County Fine Arts Association and 16 painting agents. Representative painters are &”;Four Tiger Kings&”; Xiao Yanqing, Wang Jianmin, Wang Peishuang and Wang Peizhen, &”;Four Little Tiger Kings&”; Wang Chunli, Wang Jianfeng, Zhao Qingye and Wang Jianhui, and more than 100 key painters known as &”;Little Tiger&”;. The works have both the spirit of kings and humanistic charm, forming a &”;civil rights tiger&”; style with equal emphasis on strength and softness, rich and elegant coexistence, and strong local flavor. Buhe also personally inscribed the name of &”;the first village to draw a tiger&”;.
