Guangzhou has a total area of 7,434.4 square kilometers, accounting for 4.18% of the province&;s land area. Among them, the city governs 10 districts with an area of 3,718.5 square kilometers. Guangzhou governs 10 districts and two county-level cities with a total area of 7,434.4 square kilometers and a total registered population of 7,251,900. In April 2005, the State Council approved the revocation of Dongshan District and the merger of its area into Yuexiu District; Fangcun District was abolished, its area was merged into Liwan District, and Nansha District and Luogang District were newly established. Guangzhou now has jurisdiction over 10 districts, namely Liwan, Yuexiu, Haizhu, Tianhe, Baiyun, Huangpu, Panyu, Huadu, Nansha and Luogang. It is in charge of Zengcheng, two county-level cities from Conghua and merged into the suburbs of Guangzhou.
